Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) set up a joint public-private initiative to promote creative industries such as media content, fashion, cuisine and inbound tourism. In this session, experts in related fields will examine how the "Cool Japan" strategy can promote Japan's soft power abroad and contribute to its economic growth.

Born Kobe, Japan. Naturalized Japanese citizen. LSE and Oxford graduate. Started off at a Big Six firm in the UK, qualified ATT tax consultant. Assisted Virgin and Dyson in their market entry activities in Japan. Set up La Ditta Limited in Tokyo (2006), and Maido Enterprises Private Limited in Mumbai (2007). Calls Japan, India, and Singapore home, traveling extensively. Works to export Japanese food, drinks, and contents to the increasingly affluent Indian market, and has worked with JETRO, METI, JTA, JNTO, and MAFF on various projects including the Cool Japan initiative. Opened "Feel Japan Café and Shop" in Singapore in October 2011. Published "Been There Done That ‒ A checklist of your travel life" and won the Good Design Award. Subsequently published "Japan Checklist" "Kids Checklist", launching "Anime checklist" and "Barcelona checklist" shortly.

Danny Choo resides in Tokyo and runs a small web and TV production company called Mirai Inc whose main focus is to share Japanese culture with the world through web, TV, print and conferences. Danny works with Japanese companies such as figurine/doll manufacturers, anime/game producers, print publishers, e-commerce retailers and the Japanese government to bridge the gap between Japan and the world by aggregating/disseminating information and providing the technical and conventional means to do so.
Danny is the Director and Presenter on a TV show called Culture Japan which is broadcast weekly on Tokyo MX TV in Japan, across the whole of Asia on the Animax Network and across America on Mnet America.

Graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Languages majoring French language. 1998-2002 Vogue Japon deputy editor in chief, 2002-04 Elle Japon deputy editor in chief, producing the articles on fashion and art. 2004-08 marie claire Japon, editor in chief producing the new type of women's magazine in Japan, featuring the fashion and the social articles. In 2008 got Independent and started the career as a freelance journalist covering fashion, art, life style, ethical issue, and social subject. Director of NPO "Service Grant (PROBONO) Japan", Director of Cultural Foundation of Issey Miyake, Committee of JFW(Japan fashion week), Committee of Cool Japan conference, General producer of WAO (craft renaissance) project.


Leads the Japan unit of global management consultancy A.T. Kearney. Has served leading clients in the consumer products, high tech, media, trading, and service industries in Japan and North America. Areas of expertise include corporate and business unit strategy, global strategy, marketing and organization. Worked for Nissan Motor before joining A.T. Kearney.
Visiting Professor on strategy at GLOBIS Graduate School of Management. Teaches at many institutions including University of Tokyo, Kobe University and Institute for Strategic Leadership. Advised the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on developing the "Industrial Structure Vision 2010." Supports METI on developing Japan's creative industries, and sits on the government committee, "Public-Private Expert Panel on Creative Industries." Holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Tokyo, and a Masters in Business Administration from MIT Sloan School of Management.
